Hi Adapters,

Many people might have experiences when they are overwhelmed with sadness, anxiety or other negative moods. Positive thoughts can be a powerful tool to help people gone through the difficult times, but it is usually uneasy to "be positive" in distress. That's why we need relationships to get emotional supports.
What if AI can be a good emotion supporter? In this talk, I will discuss such a possibility, where an NLP system learns from positive psychology how to reframe our negative thoughts into positive ones, so that we may draw inspiration and take more optimistic attitudes towards adversities.

This talk will mainly discuss the ACL 2022 Outstanding Paper:
Ziems, Caleb, Minzhi Li, Anthony Zhang, and Diyi Yang. "Inducing Positive Perspectives with Text Reframing."

Note that for our group seminar tomorrow, we will resume our on-site meeting in 414.

Hope to see you again and have a good seminar!

Time: Wed 4:00pm
Venue: SEIEE 3-414

Best wishes,
Zhiling Zhang
