Hi Adapters,

Words are malleable objects, influenced by events that are reflected in written texts. Understanding how words change their meanings over time and context is key to models of language and social evolution.

In tomorrow’s seminar, I will present a methodology for quantifying semantic change by evaluating word embeddings against known historical changes. I will also introduce the statistical laws of semantic evolution revealed by this methodology and carry out a timely case study using COVID-19 related big data extracted from Twitter.

Time: Wed 4:00pm
Venue: SEIEE 3-414

See you tomorrow!
Best wishes,
Ilena
