Welcome to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)! CSE Department is one of the premier institutions in China for computer science research and education.

 

         Founded in 1984, CSE Department has been adhering to SJTU’s motto of “When you drink water, never shall you forget its source; love your motherland and bring honor to your alma mater” when conducting research and delivering education. With the commitment for seeking truth and making innovation, demand-orientation and quality first, CSE Department has cultivated a large number of top-quality talents for the society through the reform and innovation of teaching methodology, the curriculum and the management.

 

         In recent years, computer science and technology comes into widespread use in daily life and new technologies such as cloud computing, Internet of Things, mobile internet, big data, etc. are emerging. Accordingly, CSE Department adjusted its subject directions and now strong research groups have formed in the areas of theoretical computer science, parallel and distributed systems, computer networking, intelligent human-computer interaction, cryptography and information security, etc. In accordance with international standards, CSE department is striving to become one of the top computer science departments in the world.

 

         Since 2009, we have been providing a curriculum instructed in English for undergraduate and graduate programs. This curriculum aims to attract international students and to prepare students to be industry and academic leaders with international vision. We also offer a series of new courses in response to the rapid change in the IT industry.

 

         With a fine tradition and rich history, CSE Department has constantly overcome difficulties and actively innovated along the way. We insist on integrating teaching and scientific research with social services, prioritizing on students and their moral education. We are making our best effort to contribute to the development of IT industry in China and the academic advancement in computer science, with the hope of entering the top tier in research and graduate education in the world in the coming decade.
