Recently, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has released the 2021 IEEE fellow list. Lu Baoliang, professor from the CS Department of SJTU, was elected for his contributions to artificial neural networks and affective brain-computer interfaces.

He worked as a Frontier Researcher at the Bio-Mimetic Control Research Center, the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN), Nagoya, Japan and a Research Scientist at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Wako, Japan. Since August 2002, he have been a full professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.He co-founded the Center Brain-Like Computing and Machine Intelligence of SJTU with Prof. Liqing Zhang. 

At present he is a tenure professor of the CS Department, director of the Key Laboratory of Shanghai Education Commission for Intelligent Interaction and Cognitive Engineering, and executive director of Qingyuan Research Institute of SJTU. He is the council member of APNNS, editorial board member of IEEE Transaction on Cognitive and Developmental Systems, Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, and Chinese Journal of Intelligent Science and Technology. He won the best paper award of 2018 IEEE Transactions on Autonomous Mental Development. His research is mainly on brain-like computing, neural networks, deep learning, rmotion AI, affective brain-computer interface.

IEEE is the world’s largest and most prestigious non-profit multinational academic organization in the field of electronic, electrical, computer science, communication and automation engineering technology. IEEE fellow is the highest membership title in this association and the highest honor granted by the organization. Every year, they are selected by peer experts from members who have made outstanding contributions. The number of elected members does not exceed 0.1% of the total members. Thus, being elected as an IEEE Fellow is recognized as an authoritative honor and important professional achievement in the academic and technological circles.
