On November 22, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) released the list of 2024 IEEE Fellows. Prof. Li Jie from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering , Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has been selected as a 2024 IEEE Fellow.
IEEE is an international society for electronics and information technology engineers, founded in 1963, with over 400,000 members in more than 160 countries. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership, recognized as the most prestigious honor, acknowledging significant contributions to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology, bringing substantial value to society. The number of elected Fellows is limited to 0.1% of the total IEEE membership for that year, with approximately 300 individuals honored annually in the past decade.
Prof. Li Jie holds a chair professorship at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He serves as the director of the Blockchain Research Center at SJTU, and a foreign member of the Japan Academy of Engineering. His primary research areas include big data, AI, blockchain, cloud computing, information system architecture, and security. He is the co-chair of the IEEE Big Data Technical Community, founding chair of the IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on Big Data, and a member of the IEEE Big Data Standards Committee, among other roles. Prof. Li has published over 400 academic papers in influential international journals and conferences such as IEEE Trans. on Computers, IEEE Trans. on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Internet of Things (IoT) Journal, IEEE Trans. on Cloud Computing, Big Data Mining and Analytics. He has authored one English academic monograph, one Japanese academic monograph, and edited five English academic monographs. In recent years, he has delivered keynote speeches on data, artificial intelligence, blockchain innovation, and applications at various conferences and forums. Prof. Li won the Best Paper Award from the IEEE Systems Journal in 2017, the Outstanding Paper Award from the Journal of Big Data Mining and Analytics in 2019, the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Mobile, Perception, and Network in 2020, the Leading Figure Award in Big Data Technology Communication from the China Association for Science and Technology in 2020, the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2nd China AI Golden Goose Awards in 2021, and the First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Award in 2023.
